It has been 17 years since Brookline did a comprehensive plan, and that plan did not produce overall zoning reform. Since then, we’ve done siloed studies of bikes, or trees, or housing, or one corridor, but those plans don’t sync up with each other and don’t enact an overall community vision. A lot has changed in 17 years, including our needs as a Town and region, and better zoning and planning tools.
The comprehensive planning process that BBD seeks states explicitly that it will not undo or derail the progress of the spot or single-issue studies currently underway, but if those studies become a reason to delay the launch of a comprehensive plan, it would be impossible to ever begin one.
